Body Butter vs. Lotion vs. Body Oil | Which Do You Need? | Mumu Bath Skincare

by Mumu Bath

With so many skincare products out there, it’s tough to determine which products are best for your skin type. Should you use body butter, lotion, or body oil? While the information on products can seem overwhelming, we are here to give you a few simple tips to help you decide which products will work best for you.

What is Body Butter?

Due to our environment and daily activities, skin can often become dry and irritated. Body butter is a great product to use if you have severely dry skin because it uses natural oils to lock in moisture, keeping your skin looking supple and healthy. It is best to use body butter on areas such as elbows, knees, legs, and hands. Body butter is not diluted, so the the thick natural fats offer a rich creamy texture.

However, it is not recommended to use body butter on your face, especially if you have acne-prone skin, because it can easily clog pores. We recommend using body butter in the winter months when there is less humidity in the air. Dry conditions cause dry, flaky skin.

If you are interested in a natural, vegan body butter, try our Lush Lightweight Body Butter. This moisturizing butter is made with avocado oil, but it has a much lighter consistency so that your skin doesn’t feel greasy. Or, for a sweet-smelling scent, try our Pink Grapefruit Body Butter. These are both great options for lasting hydration, especially as we head into the cooler fall and winter months.

Body Lotion

Lotion is another great option for soothing dry skin. We recommend lotion for those with moderately dry skin for daily use during the summer due to its lighter consistency. Many people often prefer using lotion over body butter because lotion has a water base and feels less oily (because it is). The high water content allows the moisture to absorb into your skin faster and more easily than a thick body butter.

Lotion is also beneficial because it can be used on all parts of your body. Lotion is typically a better option for those with acne-prone skin because it will not clog your pores. Our Deep Moisture Face & Hand Cream with organic shea butter, jojoba oil, and calendula provides the perfect amount of moisture to instantly improve the appearance of your dry skin without clogging pore.

Our Repair and Deep Hydration Face Serum is another amazing product that gives your face the lightweight moisture it needs to repair and soothe any dry areas.

What is Body Oil?

Body oils are used to penetrate through multiple skin layers and provide hydration that lasts all day. Oil absorbs better so less rubs off like many lotions or body butters. Due to the potent concentration, body oils are often used during the winter months when the dry, cold air irritates skin. It serves as a great skin protectant for wind and cold, too.

When applying body oil, it is recommended to exfoliate your skin beforehand so the oils can fully absorb. Be sure to wait 5-10 minutes before putting on clothing so that the oil does not transfer off of your body. Natural oils are perfectly safe to use on your body, but they are not recommended for your face because they can easily clog pores. Instead, stick to a lighter moisturizer on your face.

If body oil sounds like the best moisturizer for you, begin by using our Exfoliating Loofah Soap to remove impurities and dead skin. Then, apply our soothing Sweet Citrus Body Oil made with avocado, coconut, and almond oils to instantly revive your skin! Plus, it smells heavenly! No synthetic perfumes and fragrances needed to keep you smelling great all day long.
